It’s every diggers dream. To wake up surrounded by enough boxes of new records to fill the entire floor.
And with a kind of deal that only comes around once in a lifetime, 10,000+ second-hand records from legendary Dutch store Deep Trax Records have now made their humble way to rue René Leynaud here in Lyon for hungry diggers at LEGRAM to dine out on for months to come.
A tightly guarded secret trip [with a trailer] to the Netherlands was required to secure the jackpot: the entire stock of the highly regarded record store, who have been specialising in rare underground music since 2004 and in their own words “explore the boundaries between deeper house and techno”. Based in Leeuwarden, just north of Amsterdam, they had amassed a formidable collection that can only be found at record shops that care both deeply about the quality, and the condition of the records they are selling.
So as Deep Trax say goodbye to the era of second hand records on their musical journey, and move boldly towards an eco-friendly green pressing plant and record label, we are humbled by the trust put in us at LEGRAM to carry on flying the flag for the underground music they so proudly and prolifically represented.
Were you one of the near 30,000 happy customers they had on Discogs? If not, you will surely recognise their iconic logo - as it adorns the booths, record bags and laptops of DJs and producers all over Europe.
We asked owner and founder of Deep Trax Records, Chris Roorda some questions about the collection, the store, and the new chapter…
Hi Chris, we’re so excited to discover some of the gems amongst the second hand collection. What can our customers expect to find in the boxes?
"Great to hear about these Deeptrax gems being sold at Legram in Lyon. There are so many nice things in there, from obscure Italo and Disco to rare Chicago house, Detroit techno, oldskool deeper house and trance, breaks, IDM, synth pop and psychedelic electronics. There are parts from personal collections from famous Dutch DJ’s but also some obscure finds from flea markets and stores from all over the world especially from out of London, Berlin, NYC, Amsterdam and even Italy. I went through it and many memories came back, that makes physical shopping so nice, it’s one big memory lane…."
After all these years in the 2nd hand game, what made you part ways with all your old gems and what made you choose LEGRAM?
"At this moment we are more focusing on our Deeptrax label activities, so when we got your friendly offer, I went for it. Guess your timing was great too haha… Besides that, your label was being pressed at our pressing plant and your musical attitude is great. Also preferably we want our stock being offered in a vibrant place, in a lively city with lots of cool people around, in this way we hope to contribute to Lyon’s musical heritage in an arty way!"
So with all that in mind, prepare for a big injection of quality records as the shelves here at LEGRAM become filled with top tier second hand goodies…
